Trash to Treasures?

Lately I have been into vintage/repurposed items for furniture. I have been especially drawn to "reclaimed wood" items. There are tons of nifty furniture items not only great for your home but could jazz up a special event too.

A couple of weeks ago my husband and I were searching for a new "coffee table" and did not want something that was made as a coffee table, but wanted something that was unique and interesting. We looked at a few cool antique trunks and boxes that we considered adding some casters too and even considered transforming a pallet into a table, but the pallet sizes were just a little large for our space. We went to several places in the Melrose on 7th District and finally hit up our favorite Modern Manor. And there it was - a VERY old wood lobster trap that was already on some great casters. It was PERFECT and even better was the price $75 + 20% off (it was 4th of July weekend so they had everything 20% off - BONUS!). It came to $60.00 (no tax either) and I was so shocked at the price that I had to ask if it was right. I am pretty much in love! It is just the right size, moveable, the small "door" on the top opens up and so we were able to add some books for an added look that can be changed as often as desired. It is pictured above before the books were added and the tray is covering the little door on top.

Right now pallets seem really great for repurpose projects as you can see above and I have also heard of using the phone books (that would otherwise end up in the trash- HELLO GOOGLE) to make furniture as well.

So challenge yourself to think outside the box to add some unique showpieces to your next event or home decor.
